What are Pergolas?
A pergola awning is a stable, freestanding or wall-mounted outdoor living structure with a motorised folding fabric roof. Unlike a standard retractable patio awning, it creates a defined outdoor room with posts and integrated drainage — open to the sky when retracted, weather-ready when closed.
If you want to extend outdoor living beyond flexible shade, a pergola awning is the step up from a classic patio awning. Designed for all-weather use, it offers reliable protection against sun, rain and wind (up to strength 6 Beaufort). At the push of a button you can retract the fabric roof for a sunny day, or close it quickly if the weather turns. Choose from extensive frame colours and fabric collections, then add LED lighting, infrared heating or glass side walls if you want evening and shoulder-season use.

Pergolas — common questions
Everything Kent homeowners and businesses ask us before booking a free home visit.
-
Q1 How is a pergola different from a patio awning?
A patio awning is typically wall-mounted and folds away for flexible shade. A pergola awning uses posts and a folding waterproof roof to create a more permanent outdoor room with better rain and wind protection. We help you choose based on how you use the space and your property layout.
-
Q2 Is the pergola awning waterproof?
Yes. Our pergola awning uses a highly stable, waterproof PVC fabric with integrated drainage that guides water through the posts.
-
Q3 How much wind can the awning withstand?
The folding awning is built to withstand winds up to wind strength 6 Beaufort. We still advise sensible use in extreme weather.
-
Q4 Can I use this product in the evenings or colder months?
Yes. Optional dimmable LED lighting and infrared heating systems help you enjoy the patio later into the evening or in cooler weather.
-
Q5 How is the pergola awning operated?
Operation is motorised as standard and controlled by remote. Control packages (Basic, Comfort, Smart) can integrate with modern Smart Home systems.
-
Q6 Can I add sides to the pergola awning?
Yes. The system can be retrofitted with easy-glide all-glass sliding walls for clear all-around protection, or with vertical awnings for privacy and sun control.
-
Q7 Do you fit pergolas across Kent?
Yes. We survey and install from our Maidstone base across Kent, including Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Rochester and surrounding towns. Book a free home survey to check suitability.
