This Snodland home now has a matching shutter story from the kitchen sink to the living-room balcony. We fitted Polylite shutters on the windows and hardwood shutters over the inward-opening Juliet balcony doors — all in the same crisp pure white finish with 76mm louvres.
Mixing materials was deliberate. Polylite handles humidity in wet rooms and busy kitchens; hardwood gives the tall Juliet doors the rigidity and premium feel they need. One colour, one louvre size, so every room still reads as a single design.
The specification
- Windows: Polylite plantation shutters — lightweight, moisture-resistant and built for everyday use
- Juliet balcony doors: Hardwood full-height shutters over inward-opening doors, with a mid-rail for independent upper and lower louvre control
- Finish: Pure white throughout
- Louvre size: 76mm, a popular mid-width slat that balances daylight and privacy
- Rooms: Kitchen, bedrooms, bathroom and living room
- Location: Snodland, Kent, between Maidstone and the Medway towns
Inward-opening Juliet doors are awkward for blinds that hang inside the room. Full-height hardwood shutters fold clear when you want the doors open, then close flush for privacy and light control without fighting the door swing.
Why Polylite and hardwood together?
Polylite is a smart choice for kitchens and bathrooms: it shrugs off steam and splash better than timber, stays straight in humid rooms, and still delivers the classic plantation look. Above the sink and in the bathroom, that durability matters every day.
Hardwood suits the large living-room opening. Tall panels need strength across the mid-rail and hinges, and hardwood holds a clean line on a feature like Juliet balcony doors. The same pure white paint and 76mm louvres keep the finish consistent with the Polylite rooms.
Every opening was measured on site and installed by our own Abacus team. As a fully registered BBSA member, we fit child-safety compliant hardware as standard.
